Marin Municipal Water District seeks double-digit rate hike

Published Monday March 13

The Marin Municipal Water District is looking to raise water rates Jul 1 and again in 2018, an increase of fourteen percent.

The increase will raise annual rates by $35 for the possible average water user this year and $49 next year — an $84 hike over the 2 years, utility officials said. That useful average user now pays $660 for water annually, so the reasonable average annual rate would hit $744 by 2018.

The work is needed to improve the district’s aging water system, parts of which date back more than one hundred years. The MMWD is the oldest water district in the state, chartered in 1912.
