Marin landlords who live in the buildings they rent may soon have to conform to a county ordinance prohibiting them from discriminating against people using Section eight housing vouchers and other third-party housing subsidies.

The Board of Supervisors on Tue voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that would remove the exemption that owner-occupied buildings containing 3 or fewer housing units now enjoy from the county’s fair housing ordinance. A 2nd vote on the ordinance is necessary before it takes effect.

During Tuesday’s meeting, only one person objected to the elimination of the exemption.
